It is calculated using the positions of the Sun, Moon, and Ascendant in a formula that differs for day and night births. For a day chart, the formula is Ascendant plus Moon minus Sun. For a night chart, it is Ascendant plus Sun minus Moon. The resulting degree marks a point in the chart associated with luck, worldly prosperity, physical wellbeing, and the overall quality of fortune in the material world. The Part of Fortune is not a planet but a sensitive point that synthesizes the three most important factors in the natal chart: the luminaries and the Ascendant. In Hellenistic astrology it was considered the most important of all the lots.
